— Jim RohnIf you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.
Welcome back to The Mind Your Business Mentor podcast, where the focus is helping you build a life and not just a business. Today's episode is about the power of completing a Lifebook — a tool created by Jon and Missy Butcher that helps you map out and design your life across all 12 areas of the MYB Lifestyle Categories.
How Stephanie Discovered Lifebook
Although the MYB Lifestyle Categories aren't identical to Lifebook's, all are represented across both frameworks. Stephanie was first introduced to the concept of life categories by one of her mentors, Vick Strizheus, during a call about the Wheel of Life — and how important it is to balance each area of life for more fulfillment. Some years later, she was introduced to Lifebook through Mindvalley content. She wanted to purchase the program but didn't have the money at the time. In 2022, she finally got the program.
What Is a Lifebook?
Completing a Lifebook is a process of mapping out your life across 12 key categories. It involves setting goals, creating a vision, and developing action plans for each area. It's a tool that helps you gain clarity and direction, and it can be incredibly empowering to see your life goals and visions mapped out in such a tangible way.
But it's not just about mapping out your life — it's about taking action and making your vision a reality. The process challenges you to think deeply about who you are, what you truly want, and what's been holding you back from pursuing it. When you sit down to write your beliefs, visions, and strategies for every area of your life, something shifts. You stop being a passive participant in your own story and start becoming its author.
The Five D Philosophy: Turning Vision into Reality
The Five D Philosophy can help turn your Lifebook into a roadmap for success. The five steps are:
- Decide — Commit to yourself and your goals with full intention.
- Discover — Identify your strengths, values, and the vision you hold for each area of your life.
- Develop — Build the skills, habits, and knowledge you need to move forward.
- Deliver — Take consistent, intentional action toward your vision.
- Dominate — Achieve mastery and live the life you've designed.
By committing to yourself and your goals, identifying your strengths and values, building the skills and knowledge you need, taking action, and achieving mastery, you can turn your Lifebook into a powerful tool for creating the life you truly want.
Stephanie's Personal Lifebook Experience
Stephanie personally completed a Lifebook at the beginning of the year. Completing her first version was an incredibly powerful experience that helped her gain clarity and direction in all areas of her life. It gave her the confidence to pursue her goals and dreams with a different energy, perspective, and direction — one that felt grounded, intentional, and truly her own.
Completing a Lifebook isn't a one-time exercise — it's a living document. As you grow and evolve, so will your vision for each area of your life. Revisit it often.
The 12 Areas of the MYB Lifestyle Categories
When you work through a Lifebook, you're not just thinking about your career or finances in isolation. You're examining your whole life holistically. The MYB Lifestyle Categories — which parallel Lifebook's 12 areas — ensure that no part of your life is left unexamined or unintentional. These categories cover everything from your health and fitness, to your love relationships, to your financial life, parenting, social life, intellectual growth, spiritual life, character, emotional well-being, career, quality of life, and your vision for life overall.
Most goal-setting approaches focus on one or two areas — usually career and money. What makes Lifebook different is its insistence that a truly extraordinary life requires intention in every category, not just the ones that feel most urgent. Neglecting any area creates imbalance, and imbalance quietly erodes the joy in the areas you have invested in.
If you're ready to gain clarity, direction, and confidence in all areas of your life, completing a Lifebook combined with The Five D Philosophy can help you achieve anything you set your mind to. It's never too late to start creating the life of your dreams. The first step is simply deciding that you deserve one — and then sitting down to design it.
