Then you need money. Gas. Food. A place to stay along the way. You cannot leave without resources and you cannot figure out what resources you need until you know where you are going and how you are getting there.

Then you pack. And even packing has a sequence. You do not pack your shoes before you know how long you are going or what the weather will be like when you get there.
